SHILLONG: The State Cabinet on Thursday lifted the five-month-old Administrator’s Rule in the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), even as the crisis in the Council is far from over with another MDC shifting his allegiance from the Hambertus Nongtdu camp to the Lamdibok Sumer camp.

This shifting of allegiance of Amwi-Khliehtyrshi MDC MB Dympep on Thursday is seen as a major setback to Nongtdu who, earlier, had been elected as the new CPP leader in the Council by the MPCC in July last.

Among the Congress MDCs, Nongtdu now has the support of 12 MDCs while Sumer claims the support of 15 MDCs.

Nongtdu is also supported by Independent MDC Moonlight Pariat while Sumer has the support of UDP MDC Welcome Dkhar.

Meanwhile, Independent MDC Edmund Speaker Lyngdoh, who has been convicted by the court, will not have any role to play in this political game.

Informing about the Cabinet decision, District Council Affairs Minister HDR Lyngdoh said the Cabinet felt it appropriate to lift Administrator’s Rule to allow formation of a popular Executive Committee.

Lyngdoh also informed that the election of the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) to lead the Executive Committee would be notified at a later date.

It may be mentioned that the JHADC was brought under Administrator’s Rule by the State Government on March 31 following passing of a resolution against the then CEM Lamdibok Sumer by the two Independent members Moonlight Pariat and Edmund Speakerson Lyngdoh.
