Police-coal mafia nexus: Mehta open to probe

SHILLONG: The new DGP Rajiv Mehta  is open to have any inquiry, if the police personnel are involved in running coal business in the state.
He was a reacting to a question on allegations about some police men involving coal business in the State.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, the DGP made it clear that the policemen are supposed to carry out their assigned duties and are not allowed  to indulge any other undesirable activities. “If they are deviating from their duty , there should  be an inquiry and if any allegations come up, they have to be inquired into”, he asserted.
The questions on alleged police-coal mafia nexus came to the fore with the recent mysterious death of SI of Patharkhma police outpost, P J Marbaniang, who was found with bullet injuries on his head on January 24 night, a day before he  detained 32  tucks which were  carrying out illegal  transportation of coal.
Asked about the case, the DGP said that the Special Investigation Team was entrusted with the matter and proper inquiry should be done. Truth should come out after the  inquiry”, he added.
