SHILLONG: Aiming to replicate its success in Shillong, Hyderabad-based Hope Trust is keen to open a centre here in view of the fact that addiction to drugs and alcohol was becoming a major problem in the North East including Meghalaya.
The trust provides treatment and rehabilitation to patients with a history of alcohol and drug abuse.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Rahul Luther, founder and executive trustee of Hope Trust, asserted that the problem of drug addiction is common throughout the country but the biggest problem in Meghalaya is alcohol.
He informed that his centre provided a 12-step treatment and also focused on families of the affected persons.
“Treatment in our centre is mainly through counseling, yoga and meditation,” he added.
Reacting to query about various products available in market which claim to help people in de-addiction, he said that such claims were fake since even the best rehabs can achieve only a 47 per cent success rate.
Claiming that prohibition does not work Luther said that Gujarat is a dry state but most of his clients come from that state.
