SHILLONG: In a shocking claim, the Civil Society Women’s Organisation has alleged that a 108 ambulance driver and helper had molested an attendant of a lady who was being transported to a hospital for delivery in West Jaintia Hills District.
CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing claimed that on Sunday at about 2:15 am a lady, Philis Talang (35) of Umsalang village in West Jaintia Hills, who was about to deliver a baby had gone to the Nartiang PHC along with her husband Kmen Patiah and a female relative but the doctor told them that it was not possible to conduct the delivery in the PHC and provided a 108 ambulance whose driver and helper were drunk.
According to Kharshiing, midway to Jowai Ialong Civil Hospital, the driver and helper claimed that the ambulance had broken down.
“The helper then dragged the attendant and molested her. The patient’s husband immediately phoned his relatives for help who arrived on the scene with another vehicle which was later used to transport the pregnant woman to Ialong Civil Hospital,” Kharshiing claimed.
Terming the incident as shocking, the CSWO chief said that the relatives will file the FIR against the two accused.
The CSWO also urged the authorities to take stern action and to ensure that such incidents do not occur in future.
When contacted, officials of the 108 ambulance service said that were verifying the report.
