SHILLONG: Former Chief Minister and Adviser to the State Government, D.D. Lapang, has condoled the death of sitting Chokpot legislator, Clifford R. Marak, who breathed his last on Saturday morning at a Guwahati hospital.
“He was a dedicated leader and has served loyally not only the people of Tura but others as well. He has touched everybody’s life in many ways and was always a positive human being,” Lapang said in his condolence message.
Lapang added that the legislator’s death has caused a big vacuum that others cannot fill.
Lapang also extended his sympathy to the family members and said, “May God give them strength and comfort in this hard time. And may God continue to be with them in the days to come.”
The HSPDP also condoled the death of the GNC legislator.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, HSPDP vice president Ardent M. Basaiawmoit said that late Marak leaves behind a distinguished record of public service as a man who never wavered from his principles and courageously stood by what he believed was right even in the face of doubts and opposition.
“His public service was characterized by a strong conviction to uphold the cause of the people of Garo Hills,” the HSPDP leader said.
The party in a condolence meeting on Saturday observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect and prayed for the eternal rest of the departed soul.
