SHILLONG: The Meghalaya BJP has termed Chief Minister Mukul Sangma’s prediction that Meghalaya would be a surplus state in 6-7 years as an utter lie and a false fallacy.
General Secretary of BJP State unit, Dipayan Chakraborty, said that the Chief Minister had come out with the statement after the 14th Finance Commission gave Meghalaya the least amount of fund compared to other Northeastern states.
“The statement is meant to hide the inefficient and incompetent abilities of his government which has not been able to implement and secure a utilization certificate for most of the Central projects clearly indicating its ineffective and its involvement in rampant corruption,” he said.
“Congress has been ruling the state for the maximum time since 1972 but development has been dismal in terms of roads, traffic snarls, healthcare, jobs clearly showing the misrule and mis-governance of the party,’ he added.
“The share of Meghalaya under the 13th Finance Commission was only 0.408 per cent with Tripura and Manipur faring much better with 0.511 and 0.451 per cent respectively. Meghalaya’s share under the 14th Finance Commission is an abysmal 0.642 per cent,” he said.
According to the BJP, time has come for the Chief Minister to explain why he has received a pittance from the Finance Commission. “Mukul Sangma also needs to explain how he has come to the conclusion and theory that Meghalaya will become a surplus state in the next 6-7 years,” the BJP said.
