Kohima: Nagaland Parliamentary Secretary for Civil Administrative Works Department (CAWD) and Economics & Statistics R Tohanba has called upon the Yimchungr people of Tuensang district to abjure violence and pursue the path of peace and recon-ciliation.
According to official sources today, addressing a public meeting on Friday Tohanba, who also repre-sents Shamator-Chessore Assembly Constituency organised by the displaced Yimchungr citizens, who had to vacate Tuensang town and take temporary shelter at Shamator town, following the recent unrest in the Tuensang area, has appealed to the Yimchungr Tribal Council (YTC) and Yimchungr community to shun violence and fully cooperate in the peace building measures initiated by the state government.
“Violence always begets violence. It is only through the spirit of forgive and forget that we can restore harmony and peace in the society,” he said.
He also expressed anguish at the loss of lives on both sides.
He said the unfortunate incidents and subsequent violence had compelled hundreds of Yimchungr families residing in Tuensang town to leave the town and these families were now scattered all over the state. (UNI)
