SHILLONG: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) newly-elected president Jagmohan Dalmiya along with Secretary Anurag Thakur has assured all help to Meghalaya Cricket Association during the BCCI AGM held in Chennai on Monday.
During the meeting, Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) secretary Naba Bhattacharjee raised the issue of decline in activities of BCCI for affiliate and associate members.
Stating that till 2012, a number of tournaments including major camps by MCA and BCCI batting and bowling specialized centres including clinics for umpires, coaches and scorers were conducted at regular intervals every year. He however said that all such activities including tournaments are not held regularly now which is leading to frustration and receeding hope among young cricketers in the state.
He also added that numerous reports were submitted as asked by BCCI during the last few years which was appreciated by BCCI.
“I also appealed before the Board that it is not justified that Meghalaya Cricket Association suffers if some other associations do not perform as per BCCI norms. It is not fair to club a performer with non-performer,” he said.
He also urged that MCA be promoted without further delay so that players can participate in the next category.
BCCI officials while lauding the efforts of MCA till date accepted the request of promotion to next level and the new committee on affiliation and promotion will take up the issue on priority.
