SHILLONG: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi has defended the administration’s move to decongest the Tura town market saying that the initiative was taken for the good of the town with an idea of reducing congestion.
He also said that the alternative place was already shown to the affected vendors.
Stating that entire mapping has been done for the encroached areas, Bakshi said that action would be taken against those who try to instigate people on the matter.
It may be reminded that the Enforcement Inspector and staff of the Tura Municipal Board had to run to save their lives when an angry mob gheraoed them while they were conducting an eviction drive against meat vendors at Araimile Bazar, Tura.
A delayed report said that the incident happened on Feb 19 when Jonebo B. Sangma, Enforcement Inspector, Tura Municipal Board, was on official duty when one unidentified person interfered and on his instigation a mob of around 70-80 persons carrying bricks and stones gathered at the place.
A police complaint in this regard was lodged by the Z.J. Sangma, CEO of Tura Municipal Board.
