Career Guidance Programme success

SHILLONG: Making it clear that he wants to see the Chief Minister Career Guidance Programme (CMCGP) achieve desired results, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Tuesday said that it is the responsibility of the concerned of officers to keep track of the programmes being conducted at the various centres.
The Chief Minister also said that he would soon review the implementation of the programme “at his own level.”
Earlier, the Khasi Students Union (KSU) had threatened to shut down all the centres functioning under the CMCGP by the beginning of March claiming that various anomalies in such centres have ruined the careers of many youths of the State.
The Chief Minister, meanwhile, urged “potential local partners” from the State to take advantage of the programme.
“Local NGOs, societies and institutes can partner with the government and take up the programme,” Sangma said.
He also urged the respective Deputy Commissioners to take up coaching programme in the Science stream as there are over 100 jobs in the technical wing of the armed forces for the youths of Meghalaya.
Admitting that some Deputy Commissioners are yet to aggressively implement the programme, Sangma said that all the DCs have been instructed to take up the programme with zeal.
“The Deputy Commissioners can ask for more funds from the State Government if there is enough job absorption capacity (in the programme being pursued).
The Government is providing Rs 5 crore per annum as corpus fund for the programme in the State.
