SHILLONG: KSU education secretary Donald V Thabah has claimed that Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has decided to scrap the MOUs signed with Jain’s IAS coaching centre for providing career counseling and coaching under the Chief Minister’s Career Guidance Programme.
According to the KSU leader, the Chief Minister has also indicated that the Government will sign MOUs with multiple partners to run the programme to ensure that there is healthy competition among them and the partners deliver better services.
“We are happy with the assurance of the Chief Minister,” Thabah said after his meeting with Sangma here on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister admitted that there have been some discrepancies in the training provided at the centres.
“Every new initiative is confronted with some hurdles. It is necessary to structure every approach to new initiative in a manner with which we are able to overcome these hurdles,” Sangma said.
He added that the district administration and the Chief Counselor of this programme (Deputy Commissioner) will take remedial steps to address the discrepancies at these centres.
It may be mentioned that the KSU had threatened to close down all the centres under the CMCGP by the beginning of March alleging that anomalies in the centres ruined the careers of many youths of the State.
Speaking on the plight of such students, the KSU leader said, “We want the State Government to send the affected students to undertake coaching programme in premier institutes in New Delhi. The Government should also rehabilitate  the affected students by providing them necessary materials required for the Civil Service Examinations.”
