Itanagar:Arunachal Pradesh Assembly on Thursday informed that the government is taking suit-able action against to those who are collecting dona-tions from the different business communities under the banner of various Unions in the state.
Replying to a question raised by Pani Taram, MLA, Home Minister, Tanga Byaling said, the gover-nment is taking all the effort to curb the extortion and an anti-extortion cell has been made functional at Police Headquarter under the supervision of SP (SIT) to deal with the sensitive cases of extortion.
‘Arunachal mein union toh pani ki tarah badh raha hai’ (unions are growing like water), (koi koi union toh tin-char admi se bantah hain aur registration karbah leta hain’  the Home Minister said.
Few union members are engaged to collect illegal donations from the markets under the banner of their respective organisations, he said.
There are two authorities in the state from where the Unions obtained regis-tration certificates, in which 5328 organisations were registered under Tax and Excise-cum-Registrar of Societies and 29 were under the Labour Commissioner-cum-Registrar of Trade Unions, he informed on the opening day of the Fourth Session of Sixth Legislative Assembly.
But, some of the Unions are not followed by-laws as prescribed by the Registrar Authority while allotting registration certificates and they gave frequent unwan-ted bandh calls for their petty demands, he said.
The state had witnessed a 24-hour Capital Complex bandh yesterday, given by the All Arunachal Pradesh Border Students’ Union for their charter of demands. At present there is no specific policy with respect to the un-registered unions, how-ever, any unlawful activity is dealt by the admini-stration with relevant section of CrPC or IPC, he replied.
