Guwahati: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Anjan Dutta on Saturday held Prime Minister Narendra Modi responsible for the Dimapur lynching incident, in which a rape-accused in judicial custody was lynched by a mob.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Dutta said, ‘The PM had said earlier, thumping his chest, that the government in Nagaland was his own. Hence, the PM himself and his government must be held accountable for the Dimapur incident.’
‘It was a most horrific incident and the perpetrators must be brought to book immediately,’ he added.
Rape-accused Sayed Sarif Khan, hailing from Karimganj district of Assam and working in Dimapur, was dragged out by a 10,000 strong mob from the Dimapur central jail, paraded naked through the streets, lynched and his body tied behind a motorbike and dragged through Dimapur before sticking it up at the city centre on March 5 last.
