Fire destroys several houses

SHILLONG: A fire broke out at MES quarters at Rilbong Point at around 8. 30 pm on  Saturday gutting the residential areas and engulfing the belongings of as many as seventeen families who were residing there.  However no one was injured.
According to an affected family, the fire may have spread from a candle which was lit by someone who was residing in the quarters.
The fire also destroyed the text books of students appearing  in the ongoing board  examinations besides clothes and other belongings. Traffic came to a standstill for a few hours as the fire fighting continued for long. It took almost three hours to bring the fire under control.
This is the second incident of fire destroying properties during the windy season of March.
On March 5 a house belonging to one Pullchard Khongwir was completed gutted by fire at Mawapkhaw, Mawlai Mawdatbaki.
