SHILLONG: Residents, whose houses got damaged in the fire in the MES quarters at Rilbong, were given shelter in the Army Holiday Home.
The General Officer Commanding 101 Area visited the affected families and assuaged their feelings. He reassured them of all possible assistance in rehabilitation. An amount of Rs. 25,000 was announced to be provided as immediate relief to each family by the General Officer.
Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Defence, Amit Mahajan said that all families are being shifted to alternative accommodation within the Cantonment so as to enable them to settle at the earliest, especially in view of the board exams of some children in these households.
He said as per assessment 11 households were affected by the fire.
Due to timely action taken by the residents themselves and army authorities there was no loss of human lives, he added.
Presence of senior officers from Shillong Cantt, 101 Area and SP Meghalaya Fire and Emergency Services, Mary Gnora T Sangma was greatly reassuring to the affected families, the PRO said.
