JOWAI: A number of cement companies in East Jaintia Hills District are unhappy with the performance of local youths employed with them.
Meghalaya Cement Limited (MCL) Local Director, Phon Syih said the company is worried about the indiscipline and non performance of duties by some of the local youths employed with them.
It was learnt that the MCL authorities at Thangskai village recently listed 60 employees who failed to perform their duties satisfactorily.
According to Syih, all 60 employees were served warning letters advising them to adequately perform their duties failing which the company would terminate their services. “Many local youths employed in the company come to office only to put their signatures. They never perform their duties and yet every month they are getting their salary,” the MCL Local Director alleged.
According to sources, MCL is not the only company plagued with the problem.
“Whenever any action is taken against these youths, the pressure groups intervene and blame the company officials for the problems,” sources claimed.
