Hardcore NDFB (S) militant held from WB
Guwahati:  A hardcore NDFB (Songbijit) militant allegedly involved in the December 23 carnage in Assam was apprehended from Jaldarpara National Park forest in West Bengal, a defence spokesman said here on Monday. The militant, Roshish Basumatary alias Jama, is a 35th batch Myanmar trained cadre of NDFB(S) who took part in the massacre of Adivasis at Bharatpur in Kokrajhar district that claimed over 90 lives, the spokesman said. He was apprehended in a joint operation by Army, NIA, Assam and West Bengal Police from his hideout inside Jaldarpara National Park from Alipurdwar district. (PTI)
Arunachal to decentralise medicine procurement
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Health and Family Welfare Minister Rajesh Tacho said that the state government has decided to decentralise medicine procurement to improve the health care delivery system. While interacting with the officials of the community health centre (CHC) at Dirang in West Kameng district during his maiden visit on Sunday, the minister said that the state government had adopted zero tolerance policy for the health and education department, an official release informed here on Monday. Lauding the health functionaries led by senior medical officer S K Singh for their dedicated services to the people, he assured all possible solutions to the problems confronting the CHC. The minister inspected every department of the hospital, the communiqué added. (PTI)
Transport Ministry releases Rs 55 cr for road projects
Itanagar: The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has released an amount of Rs 55 crore to Arunachal Pradesh under Central Road Fund (CRF) for undertaking various road projects in the state. The fund has been released following constant persuasion of the state government with the Centre, state PWD Minister Gojen Gadi said in a statement on Monday. Union MoRTH Minister Nitin Gadkari is scheduled to visit the state during his maiden trip to North East in the first week of April, Gadi said. He said that Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, who is the nodal minister of MoRTH of NE states, is convening a high-level meeting on Monday in New Delhi to finalise the sanction of eight unawarded road projects to Arunachal as well as early release of Rs 54.02 cr for the ongoing 11 projects in the state during the current financial year. Strike in Manipur hits normal life
Imphal: Normal life was on Monday affected due to the 18-hour ‘general strike’ which began from midnight last, called by a local committee in protest against a bill introduced by Manipur government in the Assembly. A spokesman of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) said the bill was not intended to protect the indigenous people of Manipur. Official sources however, said the bill was intended to protect the indigenous people of the state. (PTI)
