Bid to send cash to jailed GNLA cadres foiled

SHILLONG: Police on Monday foiled an attempt of smuggling of cash into the Shillong jail meant for GNLA militants and picked up two sympathizers of the outfit and  equal number of staff.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the Special Cell of  SP office mounted the surveillance and picked up  two Youths and also recovered Rs 50,000 from their possession.
East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang said that  during questioning, the two youths revealed that  the money was to be handed over to GNLA cadres  lodged in Shillong District jail and the  smuggling of the money was facilitated by  the jail Staff
The duo have been identified as Amar Thapa (20)  from Assam and Niksang Marak  (18) from Baghmara.
According to Kharkrang, later a search was conducted inside the jail premises. During the  search a mobile, which was being used by the inmates, was recovered .
Two jail staff namely Phrangsngi Kyndiah and Rupam Kuri have also been picked up as they are suspected to have facilitated the smuggling of the mobile phone into the jail.
