Power Dept Chief Technical Advisor’s term extended

SHILLONG: The State Cabinet has approved a Bill for setting up of the North East Adventist University at Thadlaskein in West Jaintia Hills.
Speaking to media persons after the Cabinet meeting, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Education, RC Laloo said that the State Government will propose the Bill in the House after completion of all formalities.
Reacting to a query on the flaws in the functioning of private universities in the city, Laloo said that the State Government has constituted the Regulatory Commission to keep a tab on anomalies on the part of the varsities.  “The Commission will submit a report to the Government about universities which are not functioning properly…In the past we have taken action against some erring universities,” Laloo said adding that what happened in CMJ University should not be repeated.
Stating that the Government is keeping a tab on the activities of private varsities, he informed that even the Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) needs to look into certain issues. “The government is examining the matter,” he added.
Meanwhile, the State Cabinet has decided to extend the service of the Chief Technical Advisor of Generation and Transmission wings of the Power department.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma told reporters that the State Government had been scouting for technical experts in the open market but to no avail and hence decide to extend the service of the CTA.
“Technical people in the power sector are in high demand,” Sangma added.

Meghalaya House Staff Service

Rules amended
The State Government has amended the Meghalaya House Staff Service Rules. The Chief Minister informed that the rule was last amended in 2010.
Meghalaya Diversity Rules 2010 amended
Meghalaya Cabinet has decided to amend the Meghalaya Diversity Rules 2010 to enable the Rangbah Shongs and Nokmas to constitute Biodiversity Management Committees in the villages.
