SHILLONG: The Umiam-Jorabat expressway is all set to meet March 31 deadline.
Sources from the implementing agency IL&FS on Saturday said that 95 per cent work of the project has already been completed and it is just a matter of time before the road will be fully ready.
“Eighty percent work of the flyover being constructed at Lad Umroi is completed and the first flyover in Meghalaya will be ready on time,” sources said.
However, work on the Umsning Bypass stretch is yet to gain pace and officials said that the Umsning Bypass would be completed only in June next year since the implementing agency got the land recently.
Meanwhile, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee, which conducted a study on the perennial problem of landslide along the Guwahati-Shillong road, has submitted its report though to the concerned authorities.
The implementing agency has taken some temporary measures including constructing retaining walls to avoid landslides as the rainy season is approaching.
The 62-km four-laning of NH 40 (Umiam to Jorabat) has been taken up by NHAI as the implementing agency with an estimated budget of Rs 536 crore.
