SHILLONG: A day after the media boycotted the coverage of all programmes relating to the Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma, there was unprecedented security overdrive and frisking of media persons at the entrance of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
From the beginning of the session on March 9, no security personnel frisked the media persons who entered the Assembly with valid passes. The session is concluding on Wednesday.
Besides the additional deployment of security personnel, additional CCTVs mounted on a van were put up in front of the main gate of the Assembly, an action that raised some amount of curiosity.
When asked, why frisking is being carried out, the persons manning the gate inside the Assembly premises said that they are only obeying orders from the higher-ups.
A few media persons wanted to know whether the police consider newspersons as potential terrorists after the Chief Minister branded the media houses as publicity centers of militant organizations.
