New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the government was studying the Supreme Court decision striking down the reservation to Jat community and would try to find a solution to the issue within the legal framework.
The assurance was given to a 70-member delegation of Jat leaders from various states, which called on him at his 7, Race Course residence here today.
“The Prime Minister listened carefully to the issues raised by the delegation,” a release from his office said.
Mr Mukherjee urged the delegation to take lead in implementing the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ Abhiyan.
The decision to give reservation to Jats had been taken by the previous UPA government, just before announcement of Lok Sabha elections last year.
Those who had challenged the government order, had argued that the quota was against the recommendation of the National Commission for Backward Classes.
PM greets Bangladesh on its Independence Day
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted the people of Bangladesh on their Independence Day, saying the country that has always been an important friend for India.
“Independence Day greetings to the people of Bangladesh, a Nation that has always been an enduring and important friend for India”, he tweeted in English as well as Bangla. Bangladesh celebrates the day in commemoration of the declaration of independence from Pakistan in 1971 by the “Father of the Nation” Sheikh Mujibur Rahman before he was arrested by Pakistani forces. The declaration led to start of a guerrilla struggle against Pakistan to separate the country from Pakistan.(PTI)
