3.4 magnitude quake hits Arunachal Pradesh
New Delhi:A moderate intensity quake measuring 3.4 magnitude on the Richter Scale, struck Upper Subansiri of Arunachal Pradesh early this morning.The tremblor, which shook the region at 0633 hrs, was epicentred at 27.9 degrees North Latitude and 94.3 degrees East Longitude, said a statement by the Indian Meteorological Department. Mother & daughter ploughed by mini truck in Nagaland
Kohima:In a tragic accident, a mother and her daughter were ploughed to death in the heart of Mon town on Saturday after a water tanker hit them from behind as they were walking by the roadside. Official sources said that the mother identified as one Kiukhemshi alias Akumla (46) and her daughter Merentola (15) were died instantly in the spot, when the water delivery tanker, a mini truck 407, hit them from behind. The truck was reportedly returning after delivering water to customers. Sources said Kiukhemshi was a nurse by profession, while her daughter Merentola was a Class X student of Don Bosco School, Mon town. Meanwhile, the driver of the water tanker was arrested and kept under the police custody. The cause of the accident has not been ascertained and investigation was on, sources said. The bodies of the victims were brought to Dimapur for the last rites. Following the incident, district administration headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Mon, visit the site of the accident.(UNI)
Farm produce in Arunchal village rots due to lack of markets
Itanagar: Farmers of Dado, a tiny hamlet in Arunachal Pradesh famous for its organic farm produce, are struggling to make ends meet as they claim a major chunk of agricultural goods has been rotting due to lack of government support and market linkages.The local markets are not enough to sell organic products which are being cultivated without any government support and technical knowhow, he added. They cultivate oranges, large cardamoms, papayas and tomatoes besides coffee to a small extent. Taro said the monthly income of each family in the village is only around Rs 5,000-6,000. 45-year-old Dado Rajendra, who cultivates large cardamoms, oranges, pineapples and papayas in his 10 hectares of farm land, blamed the government for not extending logistics to farmers. “Time and again we have been asking the agriculture and horticulture departments to provide us technical knowledge besides medicine and fencing materials but in vain,” he said, adding there were only six government employees in the village. NSF condemns violent incidents in Nagaland
Kohima:The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has vehemently condemned the bomb blast in Wokha town and the firing incident near IG stadium, Kohima perpetrated by unidentified miscreants on March 26.In a release on Sunday, the NSF decried the bomb blast at Wokha town, wherein several individuals sustained grievous injuries and properties got destroyed. While urging the investigating agencies to put in all efforts to nab the perpetrators of the incident, the federation appealed to the district administration to provide for adequate security to the general public for a peaceful and conducive environment. On the firing incident at Kohima, the NSF stated that the unjustified act of firing in public place rendered innocent lives at risk and is causing fear psychosis to the people in the locality. Appealing for restraint from such act of violence, the NSF also urged upon the law enforcing agencies to book the culprits at the earliest and restore normalcy. (UNI)
