SHILLONG: In a case of acid attack, a 60-year-old person was admitted at Shillong Civil Hospital after he sustained injuries.
According to police, on March 27 at around 9 am, one Konok Deb Nath (43) threw acid at one Jagdish Prasad Sharma (60) at Laban Last Stop, Shillong. The victim sustained burn injuries and was shifted to Civil Hospital Shillong.
The motive behind the acid attack is yet to be known.
There is already a campaign against acid attack and the need to award stringent punishment to the attackers.
In 2013, the State Government had approved the ‘Poison Amendment Bill, 2013? to regulate the sale and storage of acid. The Bill was in compliance with the Supreme Court ruling. The purpose was to prevent people, who have criminal minds, from using acid to harm others.
In the past, there were instances of acid being misused for criminal purposes including throwing the liquid on the faces of victims.
