Instances of rape, molestation on the rise in M’laya

SHILLONG: There seems to be no respite in instances of crimes against the fairer sex in matrilineal Meghalaya with several cases of sexual assault and molestation being reported from across the state.
In the latest such case, unidentified miscreant allegedly assaulted and raped a minor girl at Mullum village in West Jaintia Hills on March 29 after midnight.
Jowai Police said that the mother of the girl had lodged an FIR and police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
The girl is presently in a state of coma in a hospital in Shillong and police are waiting for the medical report of the survivor to proceed further in the case.
In an earlier instance, a girl who had gone missing from her house on March 27, returned to the house and reported that three unidentified miscreants had allegedly abducted her and her friend in a private car to Nongspung village where they were sexually assaulted.
In yet another case, a rape attempt was allegedly made on a 51-year-old woman by one Raisonship Wahlang in her house at Iosohksang in New Jirang, in Ri Bhoi.
