New Delhi: Upholding the Bombay High Court judgment, the Supreme Court on Monday sentenced Goa’s Archives and Archaeology Minister Francisco alias Mickky Pacheco to six months’ jail for assaulting a public servant nine years ago.
While dismissing Pacheco’s Special Leave Petition, an apex court division bench, comprising Justices Fakkir Mohamed Ibrahim Kalifulla and Shiva Kirti Singh, on Monday ordered that Pacheco be sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.
The high court bench in July last year had convicted Pacheco and sentenced him to six months’ in jail.
Challenging his conviction and sentence, Pacheco had moved the top court for relief.
Pacheco is the chief of the Goa Vikas Party, which is a partner in the state’s ruling coalition headed by the BJP and is one of 12 cabinet ministers.
Pacheco was sworn in as minister in a cabinet expansion in November last year. (UNI)
