WKH school completes 25 yrs of glorious existence

NONGSTOIN: Anderson Higher Secondary School, one of the premier educational institutions in the backward West Khasi Hills District, celebrated its silver jubilee on Wednesday with a gala inaugural function attended by MLA and MDC of Rambrai-Jyrngam, K.P. Pangniang.
The school was founded by Handerson Syiemlieh on March 6, 1991, in and in a short span of time has become one of the top schools in the district providing quality education to the students.
Hundreds of invitees including parents and relatives of the students witnessed the colourful events performed by students and alumni of the school.
Addressing the gathering, Pangniang lauded the efforts of the founder of the school and was all praise for the school managing committee and the Principal, W.A. Sohkhlet, for running the school efficiently and for spreading the light of education in the backward areas of the state.
“We have improved a lot in terms of living standards and the literacy rate thanks to the contribution of this school which has played a vital role in changing Nongstoin town” Pangniang said.
He hoped that the initiative taken by the founder of the school would be propelled further for the betterment of the district.
“West Khasi Hills has lots of minerals but lacks in education,” Pangniang said while lauding the efforts of the teachers and the students for their hard work and determination. He advised the students to be disciplined and punctual.
The chief guest also donated one lakh rupees from his side to the school.
Others who spoke on the occasion included S. Diengdoh, Ex-Joint Director, DSEL and Principal of the School, W.A. Sohkhlet, who briefed the gathering on the history of the school, President, Managing Committee, S.M. Rapthap, Village Headman of Upper New Nongstoin, H.H Marwein, Vice Principal of the School, S. Sanglyne. A special prayer service was conducted by Rev. J.L. Mawlong and Rev. B.D. Warjri.
The chief guest also launched the school website and released 25 balloons as a mark of inauguration of the school’s silver jubilee celebrations.
