Guwahati: In a joint operation that was carried out at Chetnaguri village in Kokrajhar district of  Assam, the Army and the police on Saturday arrested a senior leader of the outlawed  Bodo tribe militants group National Democratic Front of Boroland (Sangbijit) or NDFB(S), who was involved in last December’s    massacre of Adivasi villagers.
A Defence spokesman informed that the apprehended militant was  identified as Samar Basumatary alias Sona, the self-styled platoon commander of Chirang platoon of the outfit.
He was a close aide of the self-styled deputy commander-in-chief of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (Sangbijit), Batha.
The apprehended militant had gone for training in Myanmar jungles from January to March in the year 2010 and was a member of the 34th batch of Myanmar trained terrorists of the outfit. He was, thereafter, made responsible for imparting training to new recruits of the outfit at National Democratic Front of Boroland (Sangbijit)  camp in Myanmar from 2010 to 2013.
Naga rebel group NSCN-K runs training in its base inside Myanmar for various militants groups operating in the Northeast.
The facility is availed of by almost all the insurgent groups in the region including those from Assam and Manipur.
The terrorist is one of the senior most cadres of National Democratic Front of Boroland (Sangbijit), who was directly involved in the massacre of Adivasis in Ultapani on the night of 23 December last year, in which 13 Adivasis were killed.
He was also involved in snatching of weapons from Territorial Ecological Force, last year in Kokrajhar district. One 7.65 mm pistol (factory made), three live rounds, one hand grenade and other war like stores were recovered during the operation.
