Tribunal hearing on HNLC ban
SHILLONG: The Office of the Registrar, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal Delhi High Court held its hearing for examination of witnesses on matter relating to declaring militant outfit HNLC as “unlawful association” here on Saturday .
The Commissioner and Secretary of Home besides the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police of East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi deposed before the tribunal.
The Government lawyer Ranjan Mukherjee later said the next hearing will be held on April 29 at New Delhi.
He also said that the verdict is likely to be pronounced by May 15.
Sources, however, informed that the ban on HNLC can be further extended upto five years The meeting of the Tribunal in Shillong was scheduled after the Ministry of Home Affairs had issued a notification on November 16, 2014 extending the ban on HNLC under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
