SHILLONG: Four legislators supporting the Congress-led MUA Government met BJP President Amit Shah on Wednesday seeking his intervention in addressing the economic hardships faced by the people, coal dealers and miners following the NGT ban on rat hole mining.
Independent legislators Justine Dkhar, Stephanson Mukhim, Hopeful Bamon and Robinus Syngkon met the BJP leader jointly under the banner of State Co-ordination Committee on Coal Mining and Dealers Forum.
Reacting to a query, Dkhar said that there was nothing wrong in meeting the BJP leader despite being a part of the Congress-led government since their sole intention was to apprise the Centre of the problems faced by the people of the State following the NGT ban.
To another question, Dkhar said that though they appreciate the steps taken by the State Government in this regard, the Centre should also step in to find a solution to the problem.
“It does not mean that we are approaching the NDA Government through the BJP President since we are not satisfied with the action taken by the State Government,” Dkhar said.
The independent legislators said that they wanted the intervention of the Prime Minister to address the concerns of those who are directly or indirectly dependent on coal mining for their livelihood.

Meanwhile, the Movement for Indigenous Peoples Rights and Lively hood (MIPRL) also submitted a memorandum informing the BJP President about the NGT ban and its serious implications on the economy of the State.
The MIPRL members during their meeting with Shah sought the intervention of the Centre to exempt Meghalaya from the jurisdiction of NGT.
