Agartala:  Border Security Force (BSF) in India and Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB) decided to intensify vigil along Indo-Bangladesh border ahead of Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council (ADC) election slated on May 3. Inspector General level meeting of BSF and BGB was held at Sabroom in South Tripura on Saturday.
The meeting discussed the strategy to thwart any attempt of the militants and anti-Indian elements to disrupt the election. BSF officials here today said that the Indian delegation was led by Inspector General BSF, Tripura Frontier B N Sharma while Bangladesh delegation was led by Region Commander, BGB South East Region Chittagong Brigadier General Md Habibul Karim.
The meeting emphasised on border domination in view of the forthcoming ADC election and has attached priority to curb trans-border crimes and smuggling along Tripura-Bangladesh border. BGB also requested BSF for use of Indian roads for establishment of new BGB BOPs in difficult terrains across Chittagong hill tracts of Bangladesh to which BSF assured full co-operation.
The establishment of BGB BOPs in the Chittagong hill tracts is believed to help India in containing militancy in the state since most of the camps of Indian Insurgents group including NLFT are located in that region. (UNI)
