Bhattacharjee refutes Mahanta’s claim
SHILLONG: Tushar Nath Bhattacharjee, who was originally a resident of Lachumiere, Shillong, and is currently based in Sydney, Australia has disputed the claims made by advocate SP Mahanta in the land dispute case.
“I came to hear about an article in The Shillong Times dated April 28 regarding a land dispute, relating to a property in Lachaumiere, Shillong. Some unsubstantiated statements have been made regarding the case which have not been tested in a Court of Law”, Bhattacharjee said in a statement emailed from Sydney on Wednesday.
Bhattacjarjee further added that as a matter of public interest, any statement made without supporting proof should not be accepted as the truth unless it is thoroughly scrutinised and proven as correct.
“The proven fact about this case is that the Appeal Court of the District Judge concluded that the documents produced in the court by former Additional Advocate General Shreeprakash Mahanta to occupy the property are not legal. This judgment of the Appeal Court of the District Judge was also endorsed by the High Court of Meghalaya,” Bhattacharjee said adding that anything that anyone says to the contrary is not only contradicting the judgment of the Appeal Court but also the judgment of the High Court.
It may be mentioned that SP Mahanta had recently claimed that Bhattacharjee and his sister had actually made false claims regarding the property at Lachaumiere.
