SHILLONG: Headmaster and two students of a school in Garo Hills were allegedly assaulted by police while carrying out anti-insurgency operations recently which prompted the teachers’ association to seek the intervention of the Government on Thursday.
After the alleged assault on Armingson G. Momin, Headmaster cum Secretary, and two students of Rongmagre St. Mary’s SSA LP School under Chokpot C&RD Block by Meghalaya Police on April 15 in the name of operation against militants, the Sarva Shiksha School Teachers’ Association Southern Zone has sought action against the police personnel involved in the crime.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, the Association condemned the physical assault on the teacher and the two students.
Earlier on April 28, an executive meeting was held at Rangdokram SSA UP School where four Blocks of South Garo Hills District jointly condemned the physical assault on the headmaster and the students. They also demanded that the culprit should be brought to book as per law.
“We have no objection against the operation against anti-social activities but the police should not harass innocent villagers in the name of operation and instead coordinate with them for better cooperation,” the teachers’ body said.
