Guwahati: Life was affected in Barak Valley of southern Assam following a bandh called by supporters of former minister and sitting MLA Siddique Ahmed, who was arrested  on charges of contempt of court in an assault case.
The supporters of Mr Ahmed called for a Barak Valley bandh on Friday, during which roads were blocked by the picketers and vehicles stranded.
The MLA has urged his supporters to call off the bandh and not indulge in any violence.
Mr Ahmed was sent to seven day judicial custody by a court in Karimganj in Barak Valley for contempt of court after the MLA had failed to appear before it, in connection with an assault case of 2011.
Ahmed is the second MLA of ruling Congress to be arrested in the last 15 days, with Dr Rumi Nath already in judicial custody in Guwahati for her alleged links with a notorious car-lifter. (UNI)
