Those with saving bank accounts can avail schemes: SBI

SHILLONG: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to launch three social security schemes in the pension and insurance sector, State Bank of India (SBI) Deputy General Manager, Deepak Kumar Lalaa on Monday informed that anybody who has a bank account can access these schemes.
The Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation three social security schemes–Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY)–  on May 9.
Lalaa informed that the nationwide launch of the schemes will be held at all state capitals and major centres simultaneously with the main launching ceremony by the Prime Minister at Kolkata.
He also informed that the schemes offer insurance and pension cover to all persons who have a savings bank account with any bank in India at very low rates of annual premium/contribution.
The PMSBY will be a one-year accident insurance cover for Rs 2 lakh, which could be renewed annually. As part of the scheme, an accidental death and disability cover of Rs 2 lakh will be offered to all savings bank account holders in the age group of 18 to 70 years for a premium of Rs 12 per annum. For partial disability the insurance cover will be Rs 1 lakh.
The PMJJBY will be a one-year life cover, which could also be renewed annually. As part of this scheme, life insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh for death due to any reason will be offered to all saving bank account holders in the age group of 18 to 50 years for a premium of Rs 330 per annum.
The APY will focus on employees of unorganized sector and provide subscribers a fixed minimum pension of Rs 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 or Rs 5000 per month starting at the age of 60 years, depending upon their contribution and age of entry into the scheme.
Lalaa also informed that forms for PMSBY and PMJJBY are available at all branches of SBI and other banks and any person having a bank account can join the schemes by filling up and submitting the simple application form to his nearest branch.
SBI, with its deep penetration across the nation and the NE states will be the leading implementing agency for the schemes.
“Enrolment into the schemes can be done at Customer Service Points (CSPs) also,” he informed.
