Nagaland Cabinet expresses grief at Assam Rifles ambush; Jawan’s body brought

Kohima/Aizawl:  The Nagaland Cabinet has conveyed its anguish at the ambush on Assam Rifles personnel on May 3 and appealed to the NSCN(K) to maintain ceasefire.
According to a statement by CMO, the Cabinet held an emergency meeting last evening, chaired by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiyanilie Peseyie.
It termed the attack on the Assam Rifles by NSCN(K) as deplorable and emphasised that killings in any manner cannot bring about solution to the prolonged Naga political problem. Eight personnel succumbed in the ambush. The Cabinet appealed to all to desist from violence.
Chief Minister T R Zeliang conveyed that the killings and acts of violence will not bring any solution and stressed on the need for dialogue and negotiation to arrive at a permanent solution.
The body of Jerusalemthara, a jawan of the Assam Rifles killed in an encounter with the NSCN (K) militants near Changlangsu village in Nagaland’s Mon district on Sunday, was being brought to Aizawl, Police said.
The 29-year old is survived by wife Lalthannguri and three young sons, the oldest being six years of age.
Police said that he would be accorded full military honours in Aizawl before being taken to his native Mizoram-Manipur border village of Vanbawng.
