Shanghai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday wound up his three-day visit to China inviting Chinese companies to take part in India’s massive infrastructure development and ‘Make in India’ programme.
“Friends! India-Chinese partnership should and will flourish. I expect very good outcome from this coming together. We have complemented each other in the past. We can complement in the present and future too,” Modi said at the India-China Business Forum here before leaving for Mongolia on the second leg of his three-nation tour.
Modi during the visit which had started from Chinese President Xi Jinping’s home province Xi’an, held talks with Xi and Cinese Premier Li Kekqiang following which India and China signed 24 agreements and announced far reaching Confidence Building Measures (CBMs), while resolving not to allow the lingering border dispute to come in  the way of continued development of bilateral relations. Modi called for a quick resolution of the boundary issue and clarification of the Line of Actual Control(LAC) but no headway on the issue could announced during the visit. According to sources, the Chinese preferred to go by the process of Special Representatives Talks.
The Prime Minister also urged China to reconsider on some of the contentious issues between the two countries.
There was significant progress in military cooperation as both sides agreed to activate a hotline between their military headquarters at the earliest, to avoid any untoward incidents on the border. The major focus of Modi’s visit, was, however, economic and trade, and the two countries announced setting up of a strategic economic task force to correct the imbalance in trade.
Modi, emphasising the key role of people-to-people contact in deepening ties, announced e-visa to the Chinese nationals. (UNI)
