Meghalaya gets 15th Governor

SHILLONG:  Senior BJP leader V Shanmuganathan,  who was sworn in as the 15th Governor of Meghalaya  on Wednesday, said that he would be working for total development of  the State.
Speaking to media persons after the swearing-in ceremony, he said that he wanted to be friendly with each and every people of Meghalaya.
“I want to understand the people and their psychology,” he said.
Asked how he felt on being appointed as governor in a Congress-ruled state, Shanmuganathan said: “The governor is common to every citizen. He does not belong to any political  party. The governor is a

constitutional post and he is common to everyone.”
According to him, Governor is a constitutional representative and he will do all what a Governor should do.
Earlier, Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court Uma Nath Singh administered the oath of office to Shanmuganathan at a solemn ceremony attended by the Chief Minister, his cabinet colleagues and other dignitaries.
Born on November 21, 1949, V Shanmuganathan was an active member of the BJP and has also held the post of Additional Secretary, BJP Parliamentary Party. In his stint with the party, he had been in charge of the Defence, Research & Documentation and Overseas Friends of BJP Cells
A post-graduate gold medalist in Political Science, Shanmuganathan is a prolific writer and has written three books.
