Kashyap praises boys for great show
Shillong: It will be mission third-spot for Royal Wahingdoh FC when they take on East Bengal in their last Hero I-League encounter of the season on Sunday.
A win will ensure that the Royals finish third in the standings in their debut season, whereas incase of a negative result, they have to wait for the outcome of East Bengal and Pune FC’s matches to know where they will stand by the end of the season.
RWFC have had a brilliant season so far creating ripples with their attacking style of football which earned them accolades across the country. For a team which started the season with a win, it would only be apt if they close the campaign on a high.
There is no denying to the fact that the I-League newbie from Shillong commanded respect from the who’s who of the tournament right from the day of their advent.
The side has created new stars along the way, several of whom are now eying slots in the national squad.
The likes of Jackichand Singh, Seityasen Singh, Godwin Franco, Reagan Singh among others are home grown players who made it big under the Wahingdoh banner and the boys would certainly aspire to end the memorable season on a high on Sunday.
The foreigners too have served as the spine of this Shillong side and are expected would put all they have to ensure a win on Sunday.
Ahead of the all-crucial tie, RWFC coach Santosh Kashyap said that his boys would not leave no stone unturned to ensure they see off the season with a “hurrah” in Kolkata.
“It’s a crucial match for us and we definitely want a positive result and end the season on a high. A win will ensure we finish third and it will be a great achievement for a young and new team. We will go all out for a victory,” Kashyap said in a pre-match press conference.
“Our target is to finish third. Hope we win and get that which we deserve,” he added.
Reacting to a query, Kashyap said that past results won’t count for much on Sunday. “It’s a new game for both the teams and we cannot bank on past results,” he said.
Kashyap reiterated that his side has made a great start (in the I-League) and has played fantastic football throughout the season. “Our attacking style of football was liked and appreciated by one and all. Victory and loss are a part of the game,” he said.
Lavishing further praise on his side, Kashyap said the boys fought hard even in the matches the team lost.
“We have always played attacking game and I am very proud of my players,” said Kashyap.
Wahingdoh, meanwhile, have a few injury concerns in Nikhil Bernard, Naoba Singh, Godwin Franco and Reagan Singh.
A final call on them would be taken on match day.
