Kolkata: Indian Super League franchise NorthEast United FC has dissociated themselves with I-League club Shillong Lajong FC and Bollywood actor John Abraham would now become the principal owner of the club, according to sources.
“John Abraham has bought out the entire stake of Shillong Lajong in NorthEast United Football Club. The terms have been mutually agreed upon and John Abraham remains the principal promoter of the club.  Both parties continue to share a good working relationship,” sources told PTI on Wednesday.
There are also reports that the NEUFC are in talks with a foreign club from South America for technical partnership but nothing has been confirmed by the franchise. Both the parties were not available for a comment.
The Guwahati-based franchise has, meanwhile, signed local lad Holicharan Narzary from FC Goa and Dempo while Atletico de Kolkata and Salgaocar FC’s Sanju Pradhan too have joined the team owned by the Bollywood actor.
The team have also retained five of Shillong Lajong’s players. (PTI)
