TURA: Armed men kidnapped a shopkeeper from Songsak market in East Garo Hills on Thursday night when the victim was returning home.
The victim, Dilip Marak, ran a small grocery store in Songsak market and had closed his shop around 8:30 in the night. S he was returning home, armed men accosted him on the road and took him away at gunpoint.
Police have not ruled out the involvement of militant groups or petty criminal gangs in the abduction since intelligence inputs had indicated the movement of armed men in the Songsak reserve forest on the same day.
3 Suspected militants nabbed in Nangalbibra
Three suspected militants, two of them said to be hailing from Tura, were picked up by police teams from Nangalbibra market in South Garo Hills on Friday following reports about movement of militants in the area.
Police recovered camouflage uniforms, a handcuff set and Rs 2000 cash from the trio. One of the arrested men claimed to be from the GNLA and had only recently been released from jail. Police are questioning the three men over intelligence reports that they had hidden a pistol and an AK rifle somewhere in the forests.
