TURA: The Directorate of Higher and Technical Education (DHTE) is yet to release the post metric scholarship for the session 2012-13 of students of several colleges and Higher Secondary Schools from West Garo Hills.
The A’chik Students’ Welfare Association (ASWA), which had been pressing the issue earlier made several requests on paper for the release of the same. The association also met the Director of Higher and Technical Education in-charge of Scholarships and sought the release of the scholarship.
During the meeting, ASWA members claimed that it was informed by the Director that the Government of India had mistakenly sanctioned an excess amount of Rs 6 crore to the state in the previous session and to balance the excess amount, a lesser amount was sanctioned for 2012-13, which is said to be the reason why the students of West Garo Hills did not get their scholarships.
“We do not think that the Government of India can make such a big mistake. We feel that this is just a bluff being made by the DHTE to cheat the students. But if it is a fact, then the Government should act immediately to benefit the students and disperse the amount,” ASWA  members said.
