SHILLONG: A brace by Nabachandra Singh brought Royal Wahingdoh FC’s Shillong Premier League campaign back on track on Thursday.
Nabachandra struck two decisive blows in the early part of the first half to seal the fate of the tie and even though rivals Langsning FC did put up a fight in the second half, the Royals still sailed through 2-1.
Coming on the back of two successive losses, the Royals had all to play for on Thursday and meant business from the very beginning.
The SPL giants were one up in the score sheet by as early as the sixth minute when Bekay Bawar made a good run from the centre to spot Nabachandra at the front. The latter made no mistake to convert from close range. Barely eight minutes later, Nabachandra struck again, this time the decider.
A defensive lapse from Langsning meant that Nabachandra found himself at goalmouth with the ball at his disposal. The RWFC forward tapped the ball in with ease to secure a 2-0 lead for his side.
Crossing over, Langsning’s Victor Shadap reduced the lead with a 56th minute conversion to keep the game alive.
However, the Royals staged a counter attack thereafter giving little or no chance to their opponents to make another comeback.
RWFC has played four games in the SPL so far winning two and losing an equal number of matches.
Meanwhile, Madan held Laitlyngkot to a 1-1 draw in a Second Division match.
John was responsible for providing Madan the lead before Iarbansing Lyngdoh helped Laitlyngkot equalise in the 22nd minute.
Laitkor came from a goal behind to rout Risa Colony 2-1 in a Third Division match. Maisfield Dohtdong put Risa in front before Sambor Mynsong scored in the 81st minute to help Laitkor level.
However, it was a late 86th minute goal by Edison Suting that finalised the scores 2-1 in favour for Laitkor.
In another Third Division match, held at Polo, Marbisu smashed six goals past Golf Links for an easy 6-0 win.
