Provide guitar, drum set to jail inmates, jailbreak probe report suggests

SHILLONG:  Guitars and drums can transform the prisoners and prevent jailbreaks as the music has the power to heal.
This is what the magistrate who probed the May 3 Williamnagar jail break suggested in his probe report, a copy of which is available with The  Shillong Times.
The escapees in the prison break , who are yet to re-arrested, include Jasan  Ch Marak and Grewith D Sangma of the GNLA, Sengchang Sangma, Raksim Momin and Dinesh Marak from ASAK and convicted rapist Chingkam Ch Marak who was involved in the infamous Williamnagar gang rape on December 13, 2012.
“Five guitars, two key boards, one stand drum and ten mouth organs should be made  available in the jail”, said Tennystar R Marak, Extra Assistant Commissioner, Williamnagar, East Garo Hills said.
According to the report, a provision for musical instruments for inmates should be made as “these can have the power to transform their negative emotions and help in generating and uplifting senses in the jaded environment of prison”
Other suggestions included appointment of two electricians and a barber as part of the plan to upgrade the jail. Moreover, the report said,’ the jail complex should be fitted with 12 solar powered lights-4 within the peripheral wall, four outside, two in front of the entrance gate and two in the battalion barracks”.
The magistrate has also observed that for maintaining the minimum level of hygiene inside the jail, a provision should also be made for providing toiletry items for the inmates.
