SHILLONG: A first half goal by Timmy Ryngkhlem sealed a 1-0 win for Malki against Royal Wahingdoh FC in Tuesday’s Shillong Premier League encounter at the Jawaharlal Nehru Complex. Wahingdoh were unable to stage a comeback after conceding before losing out narrowly.
The Royals, who missed out on two clear cut chances while one of the shots hit the top of the crossbar, could not get the equaliser despite their best efforts in the second half.
After Malki took a 28th minute lead, the Royals came out all guns blazing in the second half but failed to convert on the several chances they created.
Malki went ahead after a handball from a RWFC player resulted in a set piece for them from the edge of the box. Ryngkhlem made no mistake to convert giving his side the lead.
Crossing over the Royals went all out to make amends. The continued efforts slowly started to yield results with RWFC earning three corners in a row.
Though none of them could be converted of, the biggest chance of the tie went begging in the 64th minute when Milancy Khongstia hit the top of the crossbar with his header after he was beautifully set up inside the box by Bekay Bawar.
Seconds earlier, a Sushil Meitei shot was brilliantly saved by the rival custodian to deny Royals the equaliser.
Sushil was fed by Nagen Tamang from the left.
However, Malki held on brilliantly and ensured that they go home with three points in their kitty.
In a Second Division match, Jongksha and Riatsamthiah drew 0-0 despite both sides getting close to scoring on several occasions.
Lumpyngad and Lumdiengjri drew 1-1 in a Third Division game.
Pynshngain Khriam first gave Lumpyngad a 14th minute lead before Heibormi Dhar equalised for Lumdiengjri in the 33rd minute via a penalty. In another match, Mawryngkneng gained a 3-1 victory over Kharang. Robinsing Mukhim was the first to score with a 16th minute goal for Mawryngkneng before Elbest Kharsahnoh levelled eleven minutes later.
