NONGSTOIN: The people of Nongstoin Constituency and the entire district of West Khasi Hills on Saturday mourned the death of HSPDP chief Hoping Stone Lyngdoh who was fondly known as “Maieid”.
“The state has lost a leader who will always be remembered for his courage and dynamism. His active participation in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly speaks volumes about the love that he had for the people and the state, he was a man of principle and stood for his ideals,” E.P Syiem, Syiem of Nongstoin said on Saturday.
“The people of Meghalaya owe him a great debt for his untiring efforts and for the struggle towards the creation of Meghalaya. In his death, we have lost a great leader who always inspired us,” said KSU’s WKH president John Fisher Nongsiang.
“He lived a simple life and his memory will remain with us forever,” said A. Lyngkhoi, District Officer of West Khasi Hills.
“The death of our supremo is a great loss to the party and the State,” said MDC L.G. Nongsiej.
A relative of Hoping Stone Lyngdoh, Nilima Lyngdoh Nonglait termed the HSPDP founder as a man of principle who never deserted the party in a State which is known for its political instabilities.
The four-time deputy chief minister, the relative said, would never go from door to door to seek votes, but went wherever and whenever somebody was in need.  His mortal remains will be brought to Nongstoin on Monday for people to pay their last respects.
