WK Hills pays glowing tributes to Hoping Stone

NONGSTOIN: Leaders and workers of the Hills State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) along with the District Administration of West Khasi Hills and thousands of people from across the district on Monday paid their last tributes to Hoping Stone Lyngdoh, the longest serving politician of the State and the sitting legislator from Nongstoin.
The mortal remains of Lyngdoh were brought from Shillong to New-Nongstoin Playground on Monday in a mortuary van which was escorted by his family members and Meghalaya Police personnel.
The mortal remains were first brought to the PWD Inspection Bungalow (IB) in Nongstoin at around 11:15 am. The IB served as Lyngdoh’s home when he used to stay in Nongstoin. From the IB his remains were taken to New-Nongstoin playground where thousands of people, party members and district officials had been waiting to pay their last respects.
The casket containing the remains of Hoping Stone was draped in the HSPDP colours.
A condolence function was organised at New-Nongstoin Playground, chaired by party legislator from Mawshynrut, Witting Mawsor, in the presence  of West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner S. Kharlyngdoh, Superintendent of Police S. Nongtnger, MDC L.G. Nongsiej, Rambrai legislator K.P. Pangniang, KHADC Deputy Chairman Gabriel Wahlang, head of all the departments in Nongstoin, HSPDP workers, bereaved family members and thousands of people including young and old.
School students from Nongstoin, Mairang, Kynshi and Markasa lined up on both sides of the road going to Nongstoin to pay floral tributes to the departed leader.
At the beginning of the condolence programme, a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the leader.
In their condolence messages, those present at the condolence programme recalled Hoping Stone as a gentle soul, and as a man who was straight forward and full of understanding.
They recalled his rise from the humble position of a cow herd to that of a political stalwart of Meghalaya.
Hoping Stone’s contributions to the field of education in West Khasi Hills and his efforts in creation of Meghalaya was also fondly recalled by one and all.
Others who attended the condolence meeting included H.H. Marwein, chairman, Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong, T.S. Shangrit, chairman, Synjuk Sengbhalang WKH, Hindro Samakha, Sordar of Raidmynsaw.
