Paul to head five-member PAC

SHILLONG: The newly- constituted Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the State Assembly, headed by UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh, will pursue all those pending cases which could not be completed due to the expiry of the term of the previous committee.
The other members of the committee, which was notified on Friday, are KP Pangniang (HSPDP), Ronnie V Lyngdoh, Bluebell Marak and Hopeful Baman (all Congress).
“The previous committee had unearthed several anomalies pertaining to the construction of abattoirs at Shillong and Jowai.  We are going to follow up the matter and fix responsibilities on those responsible for such anomalies,” the new PAC chairman said on Saturday.
According to Lyngdoh, the CAG report has also put a question mark over allotment of work of the abattoir at Mawlai Mawiong to a Chennai-based company, which was initially hired as consultant.
According to him, the previous PAC had also unearthed several anomalies in the abattoir project at Jowai.
It may be mentioned that the previous PAC had threatened to reprimand the officials of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department who were directly involved with the 7.65 crore bye-species mechanized abattoir at Jowai, West Jaiñtia Hills.
“We are contemplating to  reprimand the officials of the department who were directly involved with the project,” the PAC member Ronnie V Lyngdoh said.
The chairman also said that the committee would also be pursuing the issue of land acquisition for expansion of the Shillong Airport.
