SHILLONG: “An amalgamation of two worlds”, a dance competition organised by Blossom Fun Club for Children on Sunday at Don Bosco Hall saw both mainstream and differently abled children share the same platform. The motive behind the competition was to showcase hidden talents of the differently abled children.
The main objective of the programme, according to a member of the club, Poonam Rana, was to remove the stigma in the minds of the people and to, “bring a smile in the face of the children.”
She added that differently abled children are almost always neglected and bringing them together with the other children will make people aware that they were not different.
“This initiative will also help them gain acceptance in the society,” she added.
Founder of the club, Pritika Vasnani said, “The differently abled children are not different from other children, in fact they perform better.”
The programme was also organised to raise funds for underprivileged schools. The club even refused funds from the government for its initiative. However, it expressed its need for sponsors. Some of the schools that participated on Sunday’s programme were Mary Rice, Dwar Jingkyrmen, Hearing Aid and Asha School.
Blossom Fun Club for Children was founded in 2009 by Vasnani with a team of six members committed to help differently abled children.
When asked about the future plans of the club, Vasnani replied, “I have planted a seed and I want it to grow into a tree, a platform for all children to come together.”
Vasnani added that the club was formed with a vision to provide a platform for children to exhibit their talent.
