Med services through ESIC to cover the entire country: Min
Aizawl: Union Labour minister Bandaru Dattatreya on Wednesday said medical service for workers through the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) will be introduced in the five remaining states including Mizoram. Addressing a press conference here today, the Minister said with the inclusion of Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the ESIC would now cover the whole country. “The Mizoram government has approved the implementation of the scheme by the Corporation and the scheme will be implemented in the state by the end of December,” he said. He also said a ten-bedded dispensary and 30-bedded hospital would be established in the state under the ESCI. The Centre wants to resolve the problems of the NE states on the spot, not in Delhi, Dattatreya said, adding that enforcement of labour laws to ensure improvement of workers was one of the priorities of the government. Lotha, Rengma Hohos impose bandh on NH-2 in Nagaland
Kohima: The National Highway-2 was deserted on Wednesday following the bandh called by the Lotha Hoho and Rengma Hoho in their respective sectors protesting against the failure of the authority to up work on the NH-2 within Tseminyu and Wokha sectors. The Lotha Hoho Chairman Mhao Humtsoe and Rengma Hoho president Kenyuseng Tep had informed that Nagaland Commissioner and Secretary Himato Zhimomi met both the organisations; however there was no outcome or assurance from his side, which compelled to go ahead with the bandh. Minor allegedly raped by neighbour
Itanagar: A minor was allegedly raped for two consecutive days by a government employee at Seppa in East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. 45-year-old Logo Singhi, an employee of Agriculture department outraged the modesty of a five-year-old girl who stays adjacent to his quarter, in absence of her parents on October 2 and 3, an FIR lodged by the victim’s parents on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Women Welfare Organisation of East Kameng is going to organize a peaceful protest rally protesting the incident. The East Kameng Social Welfare and Cultural Organisation (EKSWCO) described the incident as a ‘heinous and inhumane act’ against women and children. EKSWCO chairman Khya Safar Pao urged the law enforcing agencies to immediately arrest the culprit. (PTI)
